A person planning to have laser hair removal performed should avoid waxing or plucking the targeted area for 4-6 weeks prior to laser treatment. Shaving hairs or using chemical depilatories, however, is acceptable. At least two to three days before the laser hair removal procedure, you should shave the area and allow it to grow stubble. Before treatment, patients are advised to avoid tanning and sunless tanners. But if you do so, there are available laser treatments that can deal with tanned skin, naturally-pigmented skin as well as being able to deal with small blemishes, freckles, spider veins and small moles.
Additionally, patients preparing for laser treatment may have to use specially formulated skin care products and/or a prescribed skin care regimen in order to prevent pain caused by the procedure. For example one method is to apply a thick layer of a cream available from pharmacies that contains the anesthetic lidocaine to the area to be treated at least one hour before the treatment to avoid all discomfort.
When you go for Laser hair removal treatments you should opt for newer neodymium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser (Nd:YAG), which basically suits every skin type. If you are interested in removing light or gray hair you can go for a method called intense pulsed light that uses a broad spectrum of non-laser light.
